Frequently Asked Questions
  • What are your business hours?

Given the nature of what we do, we are available 24 Hours a day, 365 days of the year. We can be contacted by phone or you can send us an email and we will respond as soon as possible. We understand that you may need to contact us out of normal hours and we also cater for that.

  • Who is responsible for making funeral arrangements?

The person who has legal authority to make funeral arrangements is the Executor of the deceased person's last will and testament. This responsibility can be passed by mutual agreement to the next of kin or a family friend. Whoever signs the authorisation for a funeral service is the person who will be financially responsible for the funeral costs and the only person with the authority to make arrangements with the cemetery or crematorium.

  • What is the process if someone dies at home or in hospital, hospice or nursing home?

If someone dies at home, you should first call the doctor. The doctor who will be required to visit the home of the deceased and confirm a death has occurred. Once confirmed you should make contact with the funeral director of choice. You may be required to call the GP Out of Hours service if the death occurs during the night.

If the death occurs outside the home, a doctor (GP) will be called to confirm the death. The doctor will confirm whether or not a postmortem examination will be required. In the majority of cases, this will not be required. At this stage the family of the deceased should contact a funeral director to make the arrangements for the funeral.

  • What happens if a death occurs abroad?

Unfortunately, this makes arranging a funeral more complex, however, we have extensive experience handling a death overseas and returning the deceased back home to Ireland. We are able to take care of all document requirements including liaising with coroners, embassies, consulates and airlines.

  • How much does a funeral cost?

The cost of the funeral will be decided by you and your family. We will present you with detailed costings and go through your options depending on your budget allocation. A lot of people choose to have extras for a funeral, but a lot of funeral extras can be an unneccessary expense and can provide added stress to the family. Funerals can be arranged at an affordable price and if you wish to have extras that is up to you. If you speak with us, we will advise on the most suitable funeral service for your circumstances.

The overall cost is determined by the selection of the following: Coffin Selection, Vehicle Transportation, Crematorium Costs, Cemetry plot and burial costs, flowers, press and media notifications, preparation of the deceased (embalming) and other professional services.

  • Is it more expensive to have a traditional burial rather than a cremation?

A burial is more expensive. We can advise you on different options regarding both traditional burials and cremations.

  • Will I have to pay all the individuals providing the different services for the funeral?

No, we will take care of that and will make the payments to third parties on your behalf e.g. Church payments, cemetery costs, flowers, newspapers etc

  • When will I be billed for the funeral?

If you believe you will have any difficulties with payment of the funeral account, please consult with us. With decades of experience dealing with families at a very difficult time, we are fully aware that many families experience difficulty paying for funeral costs. We will be able to help you in these circumstances.

  • Is embalming required?

Although it is not strictly speaking a requirement, we strongly recommend embalming in all cases. At a time of loss, the care and presentation of the body is one of our most important functions as Funeral Directors. Embalming can provide a more natural appearance and prevents the spread of bacteria and deterioration. We always aim to achieve the highest possible standard of presentation of the deceased. We have both male and female experienced and qualified embalmers, who are members of the British Insitute of Embalmers.
